How far in advance do I need to register for the training sessions?
We recommend at least 3 weeks. This gives ample time for the online
assessment and other pre-work to be completed. Registering earlier is good as it provides
some flexibility for those providing you feedback. Registration for the
sessions will be closed 2 weeks prior to the start of the session.
Be sure to look for any special Early Bird Discounts that may be offered for the live training workshops.

When do I receive my book and/or online assessment and pre-work?
Once you register for a class, you will be sent an e-mail confirmation from the publisher. Depending on your training class, you will either receive instructions for downloading your course modules for the Self-Paced Foundation Course or information that includes your user name and password for the class site along with information on how to complete your online assessment and any pre-work your class may require. For the Educator Training Online and the Certified Facilitator courses, a copy of the book will be sent directly to you from the publisher prior to class.

What technology do I need to take this training?
1) You will need a computer and internet access. Wired connectivity to the web is preferred, but wireless is fine. If you would like to confirm your internet access speed, we can instruct you in that test, but it is not required.
2) We also recommend the use of a headset. It is not required, but can be helpful depending on the environment in which you will be taking the class. The headset is intended for listening only; if you have one with a microphone, that is fine but you will not be using it.
3) You will need a web browser and the latest version of Flash which works with that web browser. While Internet Explorer is supported, we recommend using the Firefox browser for stability and security. Below is a grid of operating systems, browsers, Flash versions, and screen resolutions we recommend specifically for the online class experience.

For specific questions about the technology and technical requirements, please contact trainer Beth High at beth@studentleadershipchallenge.com.
For those downloading class files:
We will have a test file (video and audio of a sample class) for you on our orientation page of the class headquarters. The file will play in the browser, and there will be an option to download the file to your computer for offline viewing. You can use this to test the audio and video on your computer.
Once a file is downloaded onto your computer, the application to play that file will vary by user. Once the file is downloaded, we recommend viewing it with iTunes. If this is an issue for any users, we can refer you to other free applications to play back the class. Please contact Beth High at beth@studentleadershipchallenge.com for any assistance you may need.

How do I ask the trainer a question during the live presentation?
A chat window within the live class is the mechanism through which participants ask questions during the class presentations. One of the instructors will be monitoring the input throughout the class. When we are not in class together, participants may ask questions of the instructors or fellow participants in the class "headquarters" site: the virtual space where the class meets between sessions. All of this will be described during the first class session. Our goal is to make sure everyone is online and comfortable with both the virtual classroom and class headquarters.

When do I receive my Certificate of Completion for the Educator Training Online program?
All class members must participate with instructors in a synchronous end-of-session capstone event focused on the delivery of Student Leadership Challenge programs. A Final Assessment measuring the participant's understanding of The Student Leadership Challenge and The Five Practices model is given at the end of the program and requires a score of 80% or better. Satisfactory completion of both these requirements results in earning a Certificate of Completion. Instructors will review the student’s assessments within 3 weeks of submission. Once the instructors have determined that all qualifications have been met, a certificate will be sent to the participant by the publisher.
|
When do I receive my final certification?
Requirements for the Certified Facilitator program include set of pre-work assignments and short assignments between each online class, a final assessment measuring mastery of the Student Leadership Challenge content, a concise recorded vision presentation, and a final project defining an individual program design that incorporates the model. The project and assessment must be completed by the designated deadlines. All projects and assessments will be reviewed and evaluated by the instructors. Once participants have satisfactorily completed all requirements, they will be awarded the status of Certified Student Leadership Challenge Facilitator. A certificate designating such will be sent directly to the participant. Certified Student Leadership Challenge Facilitators will be listed on this website, and Facilitators can elect to provide their contact information as experts in The Student Leadership Challenge as recognized by the authors and publisher.
|
How do I pay for the training?
When you click on the Register Now button you will be redirected to the publisher's site where you can register and pay for your class. Once the instructors receive a notice of payment from the publisher, instructions for downloading or accessing the online materials (based on the training program for which you registered) will be sent to you.
Additional questions on registering or paying for your training program can be directed to sales@studentleadershipchallenge.com.

What if I am already a TLC Certified Facilitator or Certified Master? Do I need to take the Certified Facilitator training program for The Student Leadership Challenge?
Yes. Someone who has gone through the extensive facilitation training offered for the classic/corporate version of The Leadership Challenge is no doubt well-versed in The Five Practices and how to train in a business setting. However, since The Student Leadership Challenge is meant for youth and undergraduate college students, we feel that teaching leadership to students presents its own unique opportunities and challenges. A full understanding of this population and strategies for engaging them in The Student Leadership Challenge concepts takes special training. If you are already a Certified Facilitator or a Certified Master for the classic Leadership Challenge, and you wish to undergo training to attain the designation of a Student Leadership Challenge Certified Facilitator, please contact a Jossey-Bass representative at sales@studentleadershipchallenge.com.
